Digital radiography (x-ray) has revolutionized Equine Medicine. Now we are able to quickly and easily diagnose potential causes of lameness and bone abnormalities with less stress you and your horse. Digital radiography allows us to view the images immediately and to retake images or to take additional views quickly if needed. Digital radiography also gives us the ability, if needed, to electronically send the x-rays to board certified radiologists and surgeons for their opinion. In addition, the images produced by digital radiography are of much better quality than film radiographs and can be manipulated digitally, giving us the best possible radiographic information to help find the diagnosis.
It is our goal to offer our patients the very best veterinary care we can. We are proud of our state-of-the-art equipment, which allows us to diagnose and treat your horses quickly and efficiently. Ultrasound allows us to examine the internal structures of your animal’s limbs and diagnose changes in tendons, ligaments, joints and bone surfaces. Our state-of-the-art ultrasound allows us to evaluate internal structures in the rest of the body as well assisting us in arriving at the best diagnosis and treatment for many conditions. As with digital radiography/xray, digital ultrasound also gives us the ability, if needed, to electronically send the x-rays to board certified radiologists and surgeons for their opinions on how best to treat your horse.
We are constantly working hard to give our patients the very best care veterinary medicine has to offer. We use the latest equipment and offer our patients new and exciting ways to diagnose and treat problems. For this reason, we are really proud to offer endoscopy services. An endoscope is a small, flexible tube that we are able to insert into your horse’s body to help us diagnose and treat various issues. There is a camera on the end, which allows us to view inner parts of your horse in ways that we never could before. We are even able to take video so that we can watch it and keep it to monitor a patient’s condition.
During a gastroscopy, we use a long and flexible fiber-optic scope to look inside your horse’s intestinal tract. It is inserted into the nose and stretches all the way to the stomach. It is important to fast your horse before the procedure so that we can so we can view all the parts of the stomach’s lining. When we perform a gastroscopy, we are usually looking for stomach ulcers. Some common symptoms, which are also reasons to have a gastroscopy performed, include lack of appetite, poor coat, teeth grinding, inability to gain weight, and many others.
Pre-purchase examinations are very popular among owners of large animals, especially horses. The examination is not meant to guarantee soundness of the animal, but to see if there are any pre-existing issues or potential problems that may affect the animal either now or in the future. One of the main issues to check for is degenerative joint disease. The examination is complete in a thorough and organized way. We ensure that the client does not have any unrealistic expectations for their potential investment. We want both the seller and the potential buyer to be happy with the results so that there are no surprises in the future.
